Mothers Day Out!

About 6 years ago my mother moved from Wichita Kansas to Bartlesville. After living in a cute little apartment for awhile she moved to a retirement community called Tallgrass where she has an equally cute apartment with a patio she LOVES to sit on and "visit" with her friends! The great thing about Tallgrass is that she eats in a lovely dining room three times a day that serves great food, has starched table cloths and waiters, and she gets her apartment cleaned once a week with fresh linens provided by staff during the week. It's great for her, in fact I'M wondering with those kind of amenities why Dave and I don't move over there! Once a week, I pick my almost 91 year old mom up for what my mom calls "Mothers Day Out". Several of her friends have a "Mothers Day Out" as well and they all talk about their day out the rest of the week! She's always dressed in a cute little outfit complete with accessories and ready to go! We usually go to the bank, then to the Dollar Store to buy greeting cards, " they're 2 for a dollar she tells me", then lunch ( almost always a hamburger, mexican, or pizza, three things they don't serve much at Tallgrass unless it's a weekend party or big game day) and then we hit Walmart! She always has a list and usually there are no more than 8 things on that list but we're always there for an hour minimum, ( she does a lot of lookin') She roars off and I head out doing my own shopping, checkin' up on her once in a while to see where she is and how she's doing. She talks to every child and baby she sees and everyone in whatever aisle she is in rushes to help her with whatever she's looking for. I love Bartlesville! From start to finish, our Mothers Day Out usually takes about 3 hours and after putting her things away she waves me off and heads for her recliner for a little nap before supper and an evening in the card room! A little different spin on the Mothers Day Out I took our five to but whether it's MOTHER'S day out or mothers day OUT, the important thing I guess is that it's a weekly event we look forward too!

Typical Crazy Boyd Weekend!

We had a busy weekend. Behr turned 2, we made our annual trek to the Pumpkin Patch (without Connor, Camden, Karsen and Kaeden this year--sniff sniff) and mean ole Dagen FORCED us to quit using our old computer by unhooking the dadburn thing and MADE us start using the new Mac! ( I knew he was gonna be trouble the moment I laid eyes on him in the delivery room!) Sweet Baby Behr's birthday party was fun ( Elmo is huge with Behr so we had a lot of Elmo stuff) and he LOVED everything he opened, but true to a 2 year old, he played the most with the least expensive gift--- a little truck that was more of a impulse buy at the last minute! Isn't that always the case? ha! We roasted hotdogs and made s'mores on the new fire pit we bought ( of course Dave bought it primarily for the kids and not because he could visualize US out there, quietly sipping on something on a starry night keeping all toastie by the fire! Unless I hook up an outside TV---with a remote----there's not much chance of THAT happenin' any time soon! Anyway, we had fun, except for those few hours preceding all the frivolity of pumpkin choosing and blowing out candles and torching marshmellows------that would be the period of time OU got beat by------well---I won't dignify them with an actual name, but you know who I'm talkin' about here! Then, just to make the day even better, Dave had to watch Nebraska get beat in overtime---------Aggghhhh---- will this yearly fall torture never end? So that's it for me-----I should get points for updating the blog on the new computer which I do like by the way, ( you readin' this Dagen?) and I MAY even post some pics-- but if you don't see any----well that's cause I was probably trying to quietly get my sugar free dove chocolate out of the wrapper instead of listening to the "how to post pics to your blog" part of Dagen's computer tutorial.
