About 6 years ago my mother moved from Wichita Kansas to Bartlesville. After living in a cute little apartment for awhile she moved to a retirement community called Tallgrass where she has an equally cute apartment with a patio she LOVES to sit on and "visit" with her friends! The great thing about Tallgrass is that she eats in a lovely dining room three times a day that serves great food, has starched table cloths and waiters, and she gets her apartment cleaned once a week with fresh linens provided by staff during the week. It's great for her, in fact I'M wondering with those kind of amenities why Dave and I don't move over there! Once a week, I pick my almost 91 year old mom up for what my mom calls "Mothers Day Out". Several of her friends have a "Mothers Day Out" as well and they all talk about their day out the rest of the week! She's always dressed in a cute little outfit complete with accessories and ready to go! We usually go to the bank, then to the Dollar Store to buy greeting cards, " they're 2 for a dollar she tells me", then lunch ( almost always a hamburger, mexican, or pizza, three things they don't serve much at Tallgrass unless it's a weekend party or big game day) and then we hit Walmart! She always has a list and usually there are no more than 8 things on that list but we're always there for an hour minimum, ( she does a lot of lookin') She roars off and I head out doing my own shopping, checkin' up on her once in a while to see where she is and how she's doing. She talks to every child and baby she sees and everyone in whatever aisle she is in rushes to help her with whatever she's looking for. I love Bartlesville! From start to finish, our Mothers Day Out usually takes about 3 hours and after putting her things away she waves me off and heads for her recliner for a little nap before supper and an evening in the card room! A little different spin on the Mothers Day Out I took our five to but whether it's MOTHER'S day out or mothers day OUT, the important thing I guess is that it's a weekly event we look forward too!
